Peptides get a permission slip, poo detectives & the return of Tae Bo

Hi besties,

This week’s edition comes to you fresh from The Four Seasons - one of our forever favourite Dubai hotels, and where we’ve just wrapped a much-needed 24-hour stay together. Spa treatments, an obscene amount of time in the pool (genuinely non-negotiable in this heat), and early nights in what might be the comfiest beds in Dubai. It was exactly the kind of reset we didn’t realise we needed - and honestly, just getting to properly catch up with each other, no laptops in sight, was the best part of all.

A big thank you to this community, too - following our functional fro-yo story last week, a few of you wrote in to us to let us know that Go Greek is officially here, in Dubai Mall. And even better, there’s an amazing new Greek yoghurt spot, Oia, just landed in Springs Souk - much closer to home for us, yay! We’ll be checking that out very shortly this week. Keep the tips coming - you can always reply directly to this email, and we promise we read (and love) every single one.

This week’s Wellness Wire is a genuinely good one - think a new Arab-rooted wellness retreat heading to Fujairah, peptides inching closer to the mainstream, your toilet potentially becoming the next frontier in cancer detection, and wearables edging further into medical territory. Oh, and 90s Tae Bo is officially back (we are not mad about it).

With love (and praying for the return of Jane Fonda-style workouts too),

📍Aesthetics International – Exploring Regenerative Aesthetics

This week I was back at Aesthetics International with Dr Zara to try my very first polynucleotide treatment.

If you’ve followed The Wellness Drop for a while, you’ll know we’ve become a little fascinated by the world of regenerative treatments. Rather than promising quick fixes, they’re designed to support your skin’s own repair processes, encouraging it to regenerate from within. As more of these treatments become available, we’re excited to explore the science behind them and share what we learn along the way.

I’ve been seeing Dr Zara for a few years now, and one of the reasons I keep going back is that she’s never about chasing trends or overdoing treatments. Every recommendation is tailored to what my skin actually needs, which is why I trust her advice.

After assessing my skin, Dr Zara recommended we start with Nucleofill – using Nucleofill Soft in the under-eye area and Nucleofill Strong across the rest of my face.

My biggest priority is improving my overall skin quality, particularly around my eyes where I’m starting to notice a few more fine lines. As this was my first time trying polynucleotides, I was keen to understand exactly how they work.

One of the things I found most interesting is that, rather than simply adding hydration or volume, polynucleotides are designed to stimulate your fibroblasts – the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin – while also supporting tissue repair and improving hydration. Derived from highly purified salmon DNA, they’re essentially encouraging your skin to regenerate itself from within.

The treatment itself was much easier than I expected. After around 20 minutes with numbing cream, the injections took less than five minutes. There were a couple of slightly stingy moments, particularly around the under-eye area, but it was absolutely manageable, and Dr Zara was incredibly gentle throughout.

Afterwards, I had a few tiny bumps where the product had been injected, mostly under my eyes, but they’d completely disappeared by the following morning. I didn’t bruise, there was no swelling, and apart from avoiding makeup or touching my face for six hours, life carried on as normal. I was back at the gym the next morning and followed my usual skincare routine.

Because this treatment works by supporting your skin’s natural repair processes, the results develop gradually rather than overnight. It’s still too early for me to comment on the results, but I’ll be sharing an update over the coming weeks as my skin responds.

The Wellness Drop Verdict: If you’re curious about regenerative aesthetics, Nucleofill is a really interesting treatment to have on your radar. It aligns perfectly with the idea of supporting your skin to regenerate from within, rather than chasing an instant fix. The treatment itself was quick, there was very little downtime, and I’m looking forward to sharing how my skin responds over the next few weeks.

🌴 Fujairah Just Entered the Wellness Chat
Khun is a new wellness retreat coming to Fujairah in late 2026, and it’s doing things differently. Rather than another resort with treatment menus and scheduled activities, its 48-hour experience is built around architecture, landscape and solitude - no itinerary, just the conditions to properly switch off. What makes it stand out is the thinking behind it: instead of borrowing from India or Japan, Khun draws on centuries of Arab and Islamic wellbeing traditions, referencing bimaristans (early Islamic hospitals designed around gardens, light and air) and thinkers like Ibn Sina and Al Razi.
Our Take: We love that Fujairah is finally getting its wellness moment - close enough to be doable, far enough to actually feel like a reset. It’s been the quiet, overlooked emirate for too long, and an offering this considered feels like exactly the right way to put it on the map.

🧬 Peptides Just Got the Green Light (Sort Of)
A panel of FDA advisors has voted to let pharmacies compound six peptides - BPC-157, MOTS-c, KPV, epitalon, semax and TB-500 - opening a legal pathway for wider distribution. It’s a big shift for a category that’s already been thriving in the gray market among gym-goers and longevity fans, with platforms like Hims signalling they’re ready to prescribe the moment it’s approved. Some clinicians remain sceptical of the evidence, but even the sceptics tend to agree that regulated, prescribed use beats unsupervised self-administration. The FDA has the final say.
Our Thoughts: The bigger issue was never whether the FDA approves them. It’s the lack of regulation and education around a market people have been quietly self-administering in for years. What this space actually needs isn’t more permission - it’s proper education, so people understand exactly what they’re taking and why.

🚽 Your Toilet Might Be the Next Frontier in Cancer Detection
Throne, the AI-powered toilet-affixed sensor that decodes bowel movements for gut health signals, just raised a $10M Series A to expand beyond its original use case - with early signs of colon cancer detection firmly in its sights. It’s a timely move: colorectal cancer is notoriously under-detected, with the majority of cases diagnosed only once they’ve advanced, when survival odds drop sharply. Caught early, though, survival rates are excellent. Throne joins Withings, Kohler and Casana in the race to turn once-subjective bathroom observations into daily, passive clinical signals - particularly relevant given colorectal cancer rates are climbing fastest among younger adults.
Bottom Line (excuse the pun 😅): Unobtrusive, always-on monitoring like this is worth paying attention to. Bowel cancer is often only caught once it’s progressed, so anything that flags changes early - and gets you to a doctor sooner rather than later - is a genuine win in our books.

🥊 Tae Bo Is Officially Back, and We’re Not Mad About It
‘90s nostalgia has fully entered the fitness world, and Tae Bo - Billy Blanks’ iconic cardio kickboxing workout blending martial arts, dance and high-energy punches and kicks - is having a serious resurgence, racking up hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok. And it’s not just a throwback moment - the format never really left. Les Mills has BodyCombat, Life Time has Strike and Burn Cardio Kickboxing, Crunch Fitness has Cardio Tai Box, and UFC Gym has been doing combat-style classes all along, alongside a growing wave of boutique studios dedicated to the genre.
Our Thoughts: Now if someone could just bring back Jane Fonda workouts too - leotards, leg warmers, music and all - we’d be very happy.

⌚ WHOOP Just Hired Its Way Into the Medical World
WHOOP has brought on former FDA advisor Dr. Ami Bhatt as chief medical officer, signalling a serious push toward regulated medical clearance rather than staying purely in wellness territory. It’s part of a bigger shift - WHOOP’s MG band already launched with blood pressure insights, its $575M funding round included Mayo Clinic and Abbott, and it’s now syncing with medical records via HealthEx, with in-app clinician consultations on the way. Oura is making similar moves, having hired its own medical chief and pulled in backing from Dexcom and Eli Lilly to chase clinical use cases like GLP-1s and brain health.
Our Thoughts: This ties in nicely with our Research Spotlight below- doctors are already leaning into wearable data, and now the wearables themselves are leaning into medicine. It feels like the two worlds are converging fast, and honestly, we’re here for anything that gets people closer to real, actionable health data.

🔮 TREND TO WATCH

🐶 Poochmaxxing Is Here, and Yes, Your Dog’s Wellness Routine Might Now Rival Yours
There’s a new term for it: poochmaxxing - applying the same optimisation instincts (and spending) we bring to our own wellness to our pets. Think canine sports massage, laser therapy, magnetic therapy coats and bespoke supplement-topped meals. It mirrors the human wellness industry almost exactly, right down to the “wellness washing” problem - plenty of products marketed on the language of health and science, backed by limited or mixed evidence. The advice for pet owners is the same as it is for us: buyer beware, and remember the basics (movement, a good diet, a healthy weight) still do most of the heavy lifting.
Our Thoughts: On one hand, our pets are endlessly loved and worthy of the same care and attention we give ourselves. On the other, much like us, pretty sure sometimes all they actually need is love, connection and a good walk - not a sound bath and an aromatherapy diffuser. The evidence agrees.

🔬 RESEARCH SPOTLIGHT

⌚ Your Wearable Data Is Finally Making It Into the Doctor’s Office
A new AMA study found that more than 85% of physicians across the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany and Spain now review wearable data with patients - with heart health, activity and sleep metrics leading the conversations. But adoption isn’t the issue anymore; integration is. Fewer than 6% of doctors have fully built wearable data into clinical workflows, held back by reimbursement, liability and EHR barriers. Nearly a quarter say they’re now getting weekly requests from patients to discuss their own data - a real shift from self-tracking to shared decision-making.
Our Thoughts: This is exactly why advocating for your own health matters - and your data is one of the most powerful tools you have to do it. If something feels off, your wearable data can help you flag it, back it up and push the conversation forward with your doctor. The key is consistency - wearing it daily, tracking the same metrics over time - so the data actually tells a story worth listening to.
